Bended Surfaces for Ray Tracing: A Fast View-Dependent Algorithm
نویسنده
چکیده
We present a fast view-dependent algorithm for ray tracing bended surfaces deened by triangular F-patches. We give up the notion of uniqueness for the surfaces, i.e., a plane containing the ray innuences the shape of the surface. However, the resulting surfaces appear smooth and continuous to the observer. F-patches can be joined G 1-continuous. The method both has low memory consumption and fast run times, which we document with experiments. The algorithm also allows to render S-shaped surfaces over a single triangle and produces smooth and continuous silhouettes and shadow boundaries.

Improving B ezier Clipping and Chebyshev Boxing for Ray Tracing Parametric Surfaces
Ray tracing is a well known rendering technique for producing high quality photorealistic pictures. Parametric surfaces are being used extensively in geometric modeling and require fast and robust methods for computing the intersetions of rays with these surfaces. In this paper, we review two recent intersections methods and discuss their problems. Combining and optimizing the advantages of bot...
متن کاملImproving the Interval Ray Tracing of Implicit Surfaces
This paper presents a fast and reliable method to trim non-solution regions in an interval ray tracing process. The “trimming algorithm” uses interval analysis to perform rejection tests in a set of pixels simultaneously, instead of individual pixels at each time. With this approach, the presented algorithm runs faster than the traditional interval ray tracing algorithm. Also, an interval algor...
متن کاملAdaptive Ray Tracing of Subdivision Surfaces
Subdivision Surfaces as well as (interactive) ray tracing have become an important issue in computer graphics. But ray tracing of subdivision surfaces has received only little attention. We present a new approach for ray tracing of subdivision surfaces. The algorithm uses a projection of the ray onto the surface and works mainly in two dimensions along this projection. While proceeding from pat...
متن کاملDirect Ray Tracing of Full-Featured Subdivision Surfaces with Bézier Clipping
We present a novel, direct ray-tracing method for rendering Catmull-Clark subdivision surfaces. Our method resolves an intersection with Bézier patches without performing of polygon tessellation as done in most traditional renderers. It supports the full set of RenderMan and OpenSubdiv subdivision surface features, including hierarchical edits, creases, semi-sharp creases, corners, the chaikin ...
متن کاملFirst-hit speed up in ray tracing surfaces of functions of two variables
Visualizing surfaces of functions of two variables by ray tracing generally follows the techniques which have been developed for ray tracing any other surfaces. But with regard to the special features of this type of surface and the fact that, in this case, the ‘scene’ to be ray-traced normally consists of only one single object, a special ray-tracing algorithm has been developed by several aut...
